Shoe covers are beneficial across a multitude of industries to protect against contamination and promote safety in the work environment. When it comes to disposable shoe covers, spunbond polypropylene and chlorinated polypropylene are two of the most common materials used to make them. Knowing the differences each material can provide can help you choose the best shoe covers for you or your company.
What is Polypropylene?
Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic. Thermoplastic is a substance that becomes plastic opon heating, and will harden when cooled. Anything made from polypropylene is also 100% recyclable! Read our blog on why we use polypropylene for our shoe cover for more information.
What is Spunbond Polypropylene?
Spunbond polypropylene is a type of polypropylene fabric that is resistant to tears and punctures, having a high tensile strength in all directions as it is a non-woven material. Spunbond polypropylene is an extremely versatile material since it is both strong and light, as well as resistant to moisture and chemicals. It can also be quilted by using ultrasonic source of energy, making the material even stronger.
What is Chlorinated Polypropylene?
Chlorinated polypropylene is a durable, non-toxic material. When tested in water, CPP still has no visible wear or pillowing. Chlorinated polypropylene shoe covers is also an anti-skid material. It gets this from the nature of its embossing pattern of design. The anti-skid design is an important aspect of durability, as the anti-skid coefficient of friction for the shoe cover remains stable over the life of the shoe cover.
